HäN Surrender

What is controlling us as humans? How do we release the boundaries we create and unconsciously relate to? What happens if we give in to the uncertain, despite the fear of letting go?

By an incidentally experiment I discovered how two contrasting materials, porcelain and wire mesh, reacted in the firing and how that began to reflect the human existential process of liberation. The transformation of the materials – various crackles, random formations of metal – testify a struggle, a resistance, until they give in to the forced circumstances.

By letting go of control myself and surrendering to the unknown outcome of the process, I have given place for the sculptures to fall out as the conditions made them. These sculptures come to act and tell different stages of the human existential longing, doubts and fear of letting go of control.

The work has mostly taken place at Tommerup Ceramic Workcenter in Fyn, Denmark, that specializes in ceramic art and decorations in large formats.
